Created in the frame of the War Diary. First shown at the main festival exhibition of European Month of Photography with Grey Series 2, "What stands between us", Akademie der Künste, Berlin, Februar - March 2025

This work is connected to the summer of the third year of the war, close friendship, and the call/demand for mobilization addressed to almost every man in Ukrainian society and to many women.

Lubke-Tidow Maren, curator of the exhibition "What Stands Between Us":

"In her installation, she presents the ground of the recently renamed 'Square of Ukrainian Heroes' in Kyiv. Nothing here conveys heroism. Belorusets combines these images with portraits of men who have withdrawn from public life, living without reliable access to basic infrastructure such as light and water in order to resist conscription.

Belorusets captured her images using an analog camera from a greater distance. The camera she used, with an unusual optical perspective, had been in a repair shop for many years in a city severely affected by the war. She was unable to retrieve it for a long time—‘it was being repaired throughout the entire war.’ The resulting images themselves appear (…) blurred, barely revealing anything—the camera does not function properly. As if it, too, refuses to fulfill its task of showing something".
