"Anfang des Krieges" in one-day-intervention "Cafe Kyiv" in Berlin

On 27th February Cafe Moskau was turned for one day to Cafe Kyiv in order mark one year of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and to rediscover Ukraine through diverse voices. One of the events was reading from "Anfang des Krieges" by Yevgenia Belorusets moderated by Alona Karavai.

Cafe Kyiv is initiated and coordinated by Konrad-Adenauer-StiftungMitOst e.V., commit, iac Berlin, Інша Освіта / Insha Osvita, Proto produkciia, Асортиментна кімната, Opera aperta, and ReStart Ukraine have joined forces in an art intervention that temporarily transformed the historic Cafe Moskau into Cafe Kyiv. Program contributions were possible thanks to support from Robert Bosch Stiftung.

The intervention took place on 27 February in order to mark one year of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, to rediscover Ukraine, and to listen to its diverse voices through art, history, films, cuisine, and the creative scene. Cafe Kyiv hosted workshops, discussions, talks, salons, and culture. Freedom, Europe, security, and recovery will be on the agenda. 
 
Together, the following contributions to the program have been organized:

  • 15:00-16:00 | What did cultural workers do during the war? Urgent grass-root initiatives for artists, museums, and artefacts | Olha Honchar, Alona Karavai, Serhiy Klymko
  • 17:30-18:30 | "War Diary / Anfang des Krieges". Reading from the texts of Yevgeniya Belorusets (in German) | Yevgenia Belorusets, moderation Alona Karavai
