Installation in frames of the exhibition "Modern times" in the Museum für neue Kunst in Freiburg (27th September 2024 till 16th of February 2025).

 

The installation ‘Lines’ by Yevgenia Belorusets reveals ambivalence and responsibility in relation to the war between Ukraine and Russia. The artist took up a graffiti ‘This is not our war’ on a wall in Berlin and added another piece of writing ‘This is my war.’ – she works by crossing out and underlining words. Abstract lines can be seen on the back of the work, reflecting clarity and chaos at the same time – like the war itself.

What does it mean to cross something out and leave it visible? 

 

A work that raises many questions and inevitably brings the viewer into contact with the current war situation. We are asked to look, to question and to take a stand. As uncomfortable as these questions may seem, they are important. The work is on display in our current exhibition ‘Modern Times’.
